Utilizing
ancient Mayan techniques, Earth Medicine, together with our partner
Ishmaeyl Moreno (one of the Caribbean's best fishermen and marine
guides, known as "Smiley" to his friends), has revitalized this method
of "farming" beneath the sea, creating a sustainable food source for
the local population of Belize without depleting the marine ecosystem.
Supporting several Belizean families who work with Earth Medicine,
this project is another example of ancient methodology working in
a sustainable manner in today's world. The techniques used in the
Mayan aquaculture farm are also being expanded to other remote, pristine
areas.
Utilizing a full line of power skiffs and a 32-foot sailboat, custom-rigged with a live well, red and black snapper from the farm can be delivered live to the market nearly 50 miles away, and fresh frozen shipments of such hard-to-find favorites as snapper and grouper will soon be available for purchase by individuals in the U.S. (stay tuned for further details).
Remember, whether you book a charter with Save Da Reef Charters, or take a holistic health holiday at Isla de Maya, your meals will feature the freshest catch of the day from our aquaculture farm, served at your Carribean seaside dining area. |
